Weather Forecasts

Where does the weather data come from? +
All forecasts come directly from Environment Canada weather stations, the same official source used by government forecasts across Canada. Canada WeatherLine pulls real-time data from your nearest weather station.
What's included in the forecast? +
You'll hear current conditions (temperature, wind, humidity, sky conditions), a detailed short-term hourly forecast for the next 24 hours, a 7-day extended outlook, and a 7-day Sun and Moon forecast (sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, phase, and the next full moon). You can also open a Sky and Space submenu for the northern lights forecast, upcoming meteor showers, eclipses, naked-eye comets, Space Station pass-overs from your area, and the next two weeks of rocket launches. See the full menu walkthrough.
How often are forecasts updated? +
Forecasts are generated from the latest available Environment Canada data each time you call. Environment Canada updates their station data regularly throughout the day, so you'll always hear current information.
Does it cover all of Canada? +
Yes. Canada WeatherLine covers every postal code in Canada, from major cities to remote northern communities. If Environment Canada has a weather station near your area, we can provide a forecast for you.
Does Canada WeatherLine include a Sun and Moon forecast? +
Yes. From the forecast menu, press 3 for a 7-day Sun and Moon forecast: sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, the moon phase, and percent illumination for each day, plus the date and traditional name of the next full moon (Harvest Moon, Hunter Moon, Wolf Moon, and so on).

Sky and Space

Does Canada WeatherLine include a Northern Lights forecast? +
Yes. Open the Sky and Space submenu (forecast menu, press 4) and choose Northern Lights to hear an aurora activity outlook based on NOAA space weather data. The forecast is most useful for callers in northern parts of Canada, where the aurora is more often visible.
What sky events does Canada WeatherLine announce? +
The Sky Events option reads upcoming meteor showers, eclipses, planetary conjunctions, and naked-eye comets visible from Canada in the next two weeks. Each event includes the dates, the part of the sky to look in, and any practical viewing notes.
Can I hear when the Space Station passes over my area? +
Yes. The Space Station option reads visible International Space Station passes from your location over the next several days, including the time, peak elevation, direction, and how long the pass lasts. Calculated from your weather station's coordinates.
Can I hear about upcoming rocket launches? +
Yes. The Rocket Launches option reads upcoming launches on the global schedule for the next two weeks, including the rocket, the mission, and the launch site.

Hello Weather & Weatheradio

Is Canada WeatherLine a replacement for Hello Weather Canada? +
Yes. When Environment Canada discontinued Hello Weather and Weatheradio on March 16, 2026, Canada WeatherLine became the private alternative for Canadians who need weather forecasts by phone. Like Hello Weather, you call a toll-free number and hear your local forecast powered by Environment Canada data. Unlike Hello Weather, you simply say your postal code instead of entering a location code, and the forecasts include detailed hourly conditions and a 7-day extended outlook.
What happened to Hello Weather Canada? +
Environment Canada permanently discontinued its Hello Weather automated telephone forecast service (1-833-794-3556) and the Weatheradio network on March 16, 2026. The old number 1-833-794-3556 is no longer active. Canada WeatherLine (1-866-844-0945) is the replacement service.
Does my Hello Weather location code still work? +
Yes. Canada WeatherLine accepts Hello Weather 5-digit location codes. When you call 1-866-844-0945, press 3 to enter your old location code and it will map to the correct weather station. All 844 location codes from the original Hello Weather service are supported.
What is the new number for Hello Weather? +
The old Hello Weather number 1-833-794-3556 is no longer active. The replacement service Canada WeatherLine can be reached at 1-866-844-0945, toll-free across Canada.

Technical

Do I need a smartphone or internet to use it? +
No. Canada WeatherLine works from any phone: landline, cell, or satellite. No internet connection, app, or smartphone is needed. Just call and talk.
Does it work on landlines? +
Yes. Canada WeatherLine works perfectly on landlines. This makes it ideal for rural areas, farms, and communities where cell service may be limited but landline service is available.
Does it work on satellite phones? +
Yes. If your satellite phone can make toll-free calls to Canadian numbers, you can use Canada WeatherLine. This is especially useful for Canadians in extremely remote areas.
Why does it need caller ID? +
Your subscription is linked to your phone number. Caller ID allows the system to identify you as a subscriber and provide personalized service. Make sure caller ID is turned on (not blocked) when you call.
